Beijing, China and Garching near Munich, Germany, Tuesday 30th June 2020. CIRC and OncoBeta today announced that they have signed an agreement for the distribution of high energy beta particle W/Re-188 generators in China.

The OncoBeta® high energy beta particle Tungsten-188/Rhenium-188 (W/Re-188) Generators can be used for radiolabeling reactions or directly as a high dose liquid radioactive source. Rhenium-188 (Re-188) is a high energy-emitting radioisotope obtained from the W/Re-188 Generator. Re-188 has shown a high efficiency and value for a variety of therapeutic applications in the nuclear medicine, oncology, and interventional radiology/cardiology areas. Its advantageous physical properties, its potential low cost, and with a long-lived parent make this generator an attractive option for clinical use. The high energy of the emission of Re-188 is particularly well suited for the effective penetration in solid tumors as well as skin cancers.

China’s radiopharmaceutical market is now growing rapidly in line with the fast expanding clinical research and use of Targeted Radionuclides such as Rhenium-188. To meet the market demands of W/Re-188 Generators in China, OncoBeta will support CIRC as well as selected projects directly.

With approximately 50.000 outpatient examinations annually, the interregional professional association for nuclear medicine Hanau is one of the biggest nuclear medicine service providers in Hesse. The offered services include a variety of different modern treatment and diagnostic methods which are state-of the art in science and technology.

This agreement represents another milestone in the development of OncoBeta’s growing global distribution network.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tautomer and Nativa will employ its extensive knowledge of African markets, sales and marketing expertise and strong network to introduce, distribute and service the Rhenium-SCT® therapy. The distribution agreement includes all geographies of the African continent starting with South Africa.

The initial Rhenium-SCT® treatment center in South Africa will be implemented by internationally acclaimed Nuclear Medicine Specialist Prof. Mike Sathekge of the University of Pretoria.

The global incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers has been drastically increasing over the past decades. Depending on the source, it is estimated that there are over 5 million non-melanoma skin cancer cases reported globally each year. Approximately 80% of non-melanoma skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas or squamous cell carcinomas. South Africa, together with Australia, has one of the highest incidence rates of basal and squamous cell carcinomas in the world.

Shannon D. Brown III Appointed New Managing Director of OncoBeta GmbH

Enforcement of the German Radiation Protection Ordinance “Use of a rhenium-188 paste for the epidermal treatment of skin cancer lesions and tumours”

Thank for your query as to whether Re-188-SCT can be classified for the outpatient treatment of Basalioma and spinalioma as a new therapeutic option in medicine as per section 80 StrlSchV [German Radiation Protection Ordinance].

We have come to the conclusion in this regard that Re-188-SCT can be considered an accepted medicine [Heilkunde] in accordance with section 80 StrlSchV [German Radiation Protection Ordinance].

Justification

The procedure includes covering the area of skin to be treated with a film to which a paste containing Re-188 is then applied using a special application device. The paste quickly hardens, thereby giving it a stable form. After the irradiation time has passed, the film and the hardened paste are peeled away. At no time during the correct application does the patient come into direct contact with open radioactive substances. The irradiation time is determined by the size of the area requiring treatment and the depth of the tumour. The values in the values provided by the manufacturer should be referred to for this purpose.

The procedure, including the application devices and the Re-188 paste, are CE-certified. The effectiveness of the procedure in the treatment of basalioma and spinalioma has been proven in multiple publications (e.g. Sedda et al., Clin Exp Dermatol33,745-749). The procedure offers special benefits in the case of anatomically difficult structures (e.g. eye comer fold, auricle).

OncoBeta Speaks at the World Rhenium Congress


OncoBeta® GmbH is pleased to announce the acceptance of the invitation to speak at the World Rhenium Congress hosted by the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine, KMCH in Coimbatore, India. Dr. Thomas Wendler, one of the managing directors at OncoBeta will speak about their new therapy for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Rhenium-SCT®. The Rhenium-SCT® (Skin Cancer Treatment) utilizing Rhenium-188 is ideal for the targeted local treatment of superficial non-melanoma skin cancers up to 3mm in depth. OncoBeta Receives Eurostars Grant


We are happy to announce that OncoBeta® GmbH Germany, Leiden University Medical Center Netherlands and Metaoptima Technology Inc. Canada have received the eurostars SkinHeal Grant. The three-year grant of 2,515,230.00 Euros for Medical device technology (instrumentation, medical imaging, radiology) development. The long-term goal is to heal the most common skin cancers (non-melanoma, NMSC) with a non-surgical approach.

SkinHeal delivers a new therapeutic device for NMSC with an integrated management system for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Providing a personalizedbeta-particle emitting patch-like plaster and modify existing products of MOT to assist diagnosis and monitor the therapy using the scintillating properties of the patch. Thus, we document and assist the complete evolution of an NMSC.

The Eurostars program is a funding and support program, aimed at R&D-performing SMEs that wish to exploit the benefits that come with international collaboration.

Eurostars is a European joint program, co-funded from the national budgets of 36 EUREKA countries and by the European Union through Horizon 2020. Eurostars has been carefully developed to answer to the specific needs of the R&D-performing SMEs, and targets the development of new products and services, giving easier access to international markets, thanks to the transnational nature of each project consortium.
